Regular readers will know how much I love the Dodge Challenger – read my review of the 2014 car here. But even I have to concede that the interior is looking very dated now, and completely out of step with the great job Chrysler has done with the cabins on the rest of the range.

So it was only fitting that for 2015 Dodge would simple tweak the outside of the 2015 Challenger, but really focus hard on bringing the interior bang up to date. Read more about the 2015 Challenger here.
For inspiration they went back to the 1971 Dodge Challenger, and the outlines of the dashboard and centre console closely echo those of the classic muscle car.

At the Chelsea Proving Ground in Michigan last week I was able to check out the 2015 cars for myself, and was particularly keen to have a look at the interiors. It’s a massive improvement over the current car, with great materials, nice logical and thoughtful design, whilst still retaining the heft of character you expect for something with so much presence.

Amazing isn’t it that with just a few minor tweaks the Challenger still looks utterly desirable despite being around since 2008, and notwithstanding rumours that it was to be killed off?

Far from it of course, the Challenger has instead thrown down the gauntlet to rivals Camaro and Mustang with the 707bhp Hellcat – read about that car here. I also got to hear it start up and revving – click the vid!

I didn’t get to drive the 2015 Challengers – although we will have a review for you next month – but I did take the opportunity to jump into a manual six-speed Challenger on hand at the proving grounds for a quick drive around the handling circuits and boy it’s a sweet shifter, with a delightfully easy gait and so satisfying to use. So if I was putting down my money for a 2015 Challenger – I’d be opting for the manual!
