STOP. THE. PRESS. News just in.

We’ve all been speculating what sort of horsepower the new 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat top-dog muscle car will be putting out from its new 6.2-litre Supercharged HEMI V8.

We know the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 puts out a magnificent 580bhp, and that the sensational Ford Mustang GT500 puts out an amazing 662bhp, so I speculated that the devilish Hellcat would just pip it with 666bhp. I was wrong.

Holy Toledo – this has a tarmac churning, fire-starting, earth-moving 707bhp and an unprecedented 650lb ft of torque, making it Dodge’s most powerful V8 ever – in fact, sod it, the most powerful production muscle car ever.

The first factory supercharged HEMI is so powerful that it comes with two key fobs – red and black. Use the regular black key and you get ‘only’ 500bhp. Deploy the red key though, and you get the full-force 707!

All that muscle gets to the back wheels via a new TorqueFlite eight-speed auto. And of course it gets the updated interior from the new 2015 Challenger inspired by the 1971 Challenger, plus a distinct front and bonnet for the Hellcat. It’s built at the Brampton, Ontario, Assembly Plant and you can expect to see these ripping overpriced exotica a new one on our streets at the beginning of 2015.

We can’t wait to drive it – in fact we soon will. Stay locked onto MotoringME.com for more!
