New SALIK gates

Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that two additional toll gates will be installed in Dubai as part of the third phase of the SALIK traffic management system.

The first gate will be installed on both sides of Al Mamzar Bridge on Al Ittihad Road, a notorious congestion point for Dubai-Sharjah traffic. The second toll gate will be placed on Beirut road on the entrance and exit to the Airport tunnel. The new gates join the existing four gates situated at Mall of the Emirates, Al Safa, Al Garhoud and Maktoum bridges respectively.

“The launch of Phase III of the toll gates system was made after conducting exhaustive traffic and field studies of the first and second phases, particularly after the lapse of more than one year since the operation of the Green Line of the Dubai Metro, and more than three years since the operation of the Red Line of the Dubai Metro,” said Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s Chairman of the Board and Executive Director.

The new SALIK gates are slated to be operational on April 15.

    Good. Yet another way to drive more Dubai-Sharjah traffic onto the Bypass Road and the old Emirates Road and keep the Dubai streets more clear for Dubai motorists. Fully agree with the move.

    As a resident of Dubai and not paying taxes, I am ok with this. Back home I pay taxes and pay toll gates and the roads and government services are below par. Somehow, RTA need resources to maintain these roads.

    All the traffic in Dubai is because of commuters from Sharjah. No offence but it is a fact! If all the Sharjah people who work in Dubai are made to move to Dubai then it would hike the rents in Dubai. I live in Dubai so that solution wouldn’t help anyone. There should be a way of making Shj commuters pay extra to use Dubai roads at the same time not penalising Dubai residents. I am sure Shj residents wouldn’t mind paying 1% of the massive saving they make in rents by staying in Shj instead.

      @Max..

      All the traffic that comes from sharjah accounts for just 9% of dubai’s traffic. Rest of dubai traffic is ‘dubai’ traffic itself.

    nice excuse of earning money .. you people think its fair no way think of the people who daily cross the roads it wont help in traffic its just to increase revenue cesar you think UAE is tax free .. yes they dont ask for tax but they do have fees of different things well for example in many countries you jus buy your trading license once and its for life time here you have to renew it every year ? indirect tax .. what was the reason of reducing visa limit from 3 years to 2 years jus extra income
