Rolls-Royce Ghost V-Spec?!

Chrome exhausts, more power and V-Spec badges. It’s not a bloody GT-R you know!

Something’s gone terribly wrong at Rolls-Royce. I’m thinking someone there’s bought themselves a Nissan GT-R and become very enamoured with the fabled V-Spec performance variant.

Why do we say that, because – shock, horror – there are now V-spec badges (although of course in Rolls-Royce parlance they are referred to as ‘motifs’) adorning the grand Ghost saloon. Admittedly it doesn’t actually say V-Spec. It doesn’t even look a like a V. More like some wings.

Rolls is producing a limited series of V-spec versions which will see 30bhp extra added to the 563bhp already put out by the magnificent 6.6-litre V12 under the bonnet, beneath the skirt of the exquisite Flying Lady.

What happened to never talking about bhp figures? ‘Adequate’ was always sumblimely sufficient in the past.

Anyway we’re really not sure it will make much discernible difference to something that weighs 2360kg (2420kg for the long-wheelbase), especially as the 0-60mph time quoted in the press release (4.7secs) is the same as the regular Ghost.

It all seems rather unseemly to us, but if you must be so crass, the V-Spec motif is in the coachlines, the treadplates and embroidered into the rear armrest. Optional visible chrome exhausts and 21-inch part-polished wheels are available.

Those little additions do not even deserve to be given a separate model name. Rolls Royce has gone insane!
