Rolls-Royce has just revealed the Dawn – a convertible version of the Wraith (although Royce denies it’s a Wraith convertible, insisting it’s a whole separate new car), described as the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built.
Set to go on sale, the Dawn adopts the 6.6-litre V12 but despite its 563bhp, the Wraith remains the sportiest model in the range, with the Dawn taking the more glamorous route with the emphasis on style and comfort.
It gets fabric roof instead of a folding hard-top to give it a more ‘romantic’ feel. The grille bars are recessed by 45mm for this car with the front bumper extended by 53mm, and it retains the suicide doors.
Like the Phantom Drophead the deck is a feature in itself, with mirrored open-pore Canadel wood that appears to sweep down into the cabin.
The rood opens and closes in 22 seconds at speeds of up to 50kph. There are runflat tyre on the 21-inch 10-spoke rims. Performance for the full 2+2 Rolls-Royce Dawn is more than swift with 0-100kph in 4.9seconds and a limited top speed of 250kph.
The Dawn name has only been on 28 drophead bodies between 1950-54. This car has 80% unique body panels compared to the Wraith and Ghost.
