Our Cars: 2012 Toyota Yaris – week 5 & 6

Yaris on vacation

With the MME team spending the last couple of weeks travelling and testing other cars, the Yaris found itself getting quite a break over the last couple of weeks. Of course that means that it has ended up in quite a filthy, especially after a windy few days. So it got the full AED35 body wash treatment and has turned out looking spic and span!

The great thing about the Yaris though is that you can treat it this way, you don’t have to be too precious about it. But that’s not to undersell this car.

Toyota’s Yaris is the automotive equivalent of the perfect sidekick, you can just ignore and sideline it for a while, but the moment you need to go back to it, it’s keen, eager and ever ready.

Funny thing is that despite driving other, more powerful, faster, better looking, and rather glamorous cars, there were things about the Yaris that I missed. It’s no-nonsense appeal, it’s simplicity of engagement, its nimble handling, responsive performance, sheer joyful chuckability.

In six weeks of running this car, I still can’t really find a really strong or valid criticism of the car, except that I really wish it had a manual gearbox, because that would make it even more of a laugh!

Part 1 – week 1
