At the beginning of the year Porsche launched the all-new 911 – which of course looked exactly like the old 911, as it always does. But this was indeed a completely revamped model, longer and lower with an entirely redesigned interior based on its bigger brothers like the Panamera. At the time the Carrera and Carrera S was launched in Coupe and Cabriolet guises.

From the end of 2012, however, the four-wheel drive, Carrera 4 and 4 S models will become available, again in both hard and soft-top bodystyles. It obviously gets all the updates and revisions of the rear-wheel drive only cars we’ve already seen and tested, but now with all four wheels driven. Adding that the new cars are 64kg lighter than the old versions, Porsche claims a fuel economy improvement of 16 per cent.

911 fans will be able to spot the AWD models (with power delivery biased to the rear) by the wider rear wheel arches, pushing out 22mm on each side. Each rear tyres is also 10mm wider and you’ll also notice the red band between the taillights is fully illuminated.

Engine and transmission specifications remain unchanged (350bhp for the Carrera 4 and 400bhp for the 4 S, giving 0-100kph times of 4.5 and 4.1 seconds respectively for the Coupes. Prices in the GCC are $100,289 (AED369k) for the Carrera 4 Coupe, $110,324 (AED406k) for the cabriolet, $117,534 (AED432k) for the Carrera 4 S and $127,887  (AED471k) for the Carrera 4S Cabriolet.
