Want to know how old the current A35 Nissan Maxima? When it came out, Tony Stark was getting into his first Iron Man suit. Long overdue for a refresh, we”ll get our first look at what’s in store for Nissan’s big luxury saloon at the Detroit Auto Show this month, when the Japanese firm shows this Nissan Sport Sedan Concept.

Making its bow alongside the well-received IDX Freeflow concept, the super-swoopy SSC (not to be confused with the er, much quicker Thrust SSC) previews the next generation of Nissan’s V-based styling. The grille shows clear influences from the Tiida hatchback and the strong flanks are no doubt born of the GT-R, but it’s the boomerang headlights which are the most interesting to me, taking the 370Z’s scalpel eyes to the next level.

Quite a mish-mash of ideas then; hopefully it will all congeal into something rather tasty that brings back the Maxima’s glory days – remember when it was the ‘Four Door Sportscar’? The full concept will be revealed on January 13 at the Detroit Auto Show.
