Mitsubishi Lancer is the most reliable car
No suprise to us in the Middle East, that the old Lancer is voted most reliable by Warranty Direct UK

Well this will come as no suprise to most of us here in the Middle East. In fact in the UAE almost everybody that first arrives here ends up hiring one of these – the venerable Mitsubishi Lancer.
British warranty specialist, Warranty Direct, has just named the Lancer the most reliable car of the last 15 years. The company has been in business for 15 years and has studied more than 200,000 warranties during that time for its Reliability Index.
Unsurprisingly Japanese and Far Eastern cars dominate the Reliability Index, apart from the Vauxhall (Opel) Agila – this survey is for the UK market.
Here’s the full list of the top ten cars according to Warranty Direct’s Reliability Index:
Make & Model | Year of manufacture | Reliability Index rating*
1 | Mitsubishi Lancer | (05-08) | 6 |
2 | Vauxhall Agila | (00-08) | 8 |
3 | Suzuki Alto | (97-06) | 9 |

And the UK Reliability Index reveals Britain’s Least Reliable cars
At the other end of the scale, larger, more sophisticated and luxury cars, such as the Bentley Continental GT, defy their bigger price tags by breaking down more often or costing more to repair.
The similarly iconic Porsche 911 (996) features in the 10 least reliable cars of the last 15 years despite featuring the best annual incident rate of the group, at 39%, because of its hefty average repair cost.
The same can be said for prestige brand, Mercedes, whose cars feature three times in the bottom 10 places on the list. The SL, for instance, breaks down less often than almost every other car in the lowest-ranked group, but high repair costs places the car near the foot of the rankings.
Make & Model | Year of manufacture | Reliability Index rating*

4 | Mercedes V-Class | (96-04) | 547 |
