Good news for all you of who wanted the mad Lamborghini Veneno but were disappointed by its ultra-exclusive three car production run; the wizards of Sant’Agata are making some more, and this time they’re taking the top off.

The Veneno Roadster has just been announced with an eye-watering price tag of US$4.5 million, which kinda makes sense when you find out that there’s only going to be nine of them, with production starting in 2014. As before, the Veneno – officially dubbed a ‘prototype’ is based on the stunning Aventador supercar, with the same 6.5-litre, with power cranked up to 750bhp, good for a 0-100kph sprint of 2.9 seconds and a mad, mad top speed of 220mph. That’s a bit frightening, especially when you realise that there is no fixed roof of any sort available.

When the Veneno first debuted at the Geneva Motor Show critics decried it for being a little bit too insane compared to the restrained elegance of the McLaren P1 and the LaFerrari, but I think time has been kind to its outrageous looks. Like the Countach before it this is Lamborghini going all in on the styling front making the car that’s the stuff of childhood fantasy, the car we wished racecars looked like, not the sterile windtunnel products we actually get. One thing’s for certain – if you ever see one in the flesh, you won’t be able to resist the urge to reach for your camera phone.
