Lamborghini Egoista Concept

Single seater concept pushes all our buttons

We knew Lamborghini were always fans of science fiction. How else do you explain why their cars look like road-going spaceships? With their new Egoista Concept though, they’ve finally built the Star Wars X-Wing they were always destined to make.

Lamborghini Egoista

Designed by VW Head Of Design Walter De Silva (who you may remember from his earlier hit, the Audi R8) the Egoista is Lamborghini’s birthday present…to itself…to mark its 50th anniversary. And I’m not kidding about this space ship stuff; Egoista only has one seat in its cockpit-style cabin which is made solely from carbonfibre and aluminium. Or ‘a survival cell’, as De Silva calls it.

Powering the Egoista is Lambo’s old-faithful 5.2-litre V10 producing 600bhp, easily enough to get the Egoista into orbit. The engine is beside the point really, as it’s wrapped in a body that’s beyond outrageous, a real spaceship for the road, a mix of vents slashes and futuristic appendages that will have you wondering which end is the front.

Is it beautiful? Not really. But like the X-Wing, it’s a fabulous piece of mechanical art that is a child’s scribbling brought to three dimensional life. And of course, there’s only one – unless like the Sesto Elemento, you throw enough money at Sant Agata, in which case they’ll probably build you one.

The rest of us will just have to dream.
