Stunning Vision G concept previews Hyundai future at Pebble Beach

Is Hyundai planning to go upscale? The Korean car company dropped a big hint towards the possibility as it unveiled the Vision G Concept at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance at Monterey in California this weekend.
Let’s be very clear: Hyundai PR has categorically stated this is merely a concept and that a production coupe is unlikely to happen. That doesn’t mean you won’t see future Hyundais sporting these crisp lines, as the company seeks to further move away from the moribund Japanese opposition.
President and design boss Peter Schreyer doesn’t know how to make a bad looking car, and so it goes with the Vision G: a sumptuous mix of Infiniti swept back headlights, strong chiseled shoulders and carefully sculpted flanks leading to a pert Mercedes style rear. You can also spot the Merc influence in the pillarless doors and the missing B-pillar.
Once inside, the inevitable fanciful concept car interior arises with nonsensically white surfacing and lavish wood treatments. Under the hood is Hyundai’s 5.0-litre V8, here in 420bhp/383lb ft trim, though again, being a design study, this car will never turn a wheel in anger.
