Hyundai Veloster Turbo to bow at Dubai Motor Show
Turbo power for Hyundai’s three door hit hatch
By Imthishan Giado
Some good news for hot hatch fans coming to this year’s Dubai Motor Show – responding to popular demand, Hyundai is finally bringing the Turbo version of the Veloster to the Middle East.
With its keen pricing the Veloster’s done exceptionally well in the region, so the Turbo version can only improve its appeal. Power jumps from a mild 128bhp to a much-more-like-it 201bhp with the help of forced induction. Torque also sees a big boost (pardon the pun) from 116lb ft to 195lb ft. Transmissions include a six-speed auto or a six-speed manual, although we’re waiting to hear from Hyundai whether the latter will be offered in this region.
The regular car isn’t exactly quick with 0-100kph taking a leisurely 10.3 second stroll – and well the Turbo isn’t that much quicker either, doing the deed in 8.4 seconds. Still the added punch can’t hurt. No word on pricing, but expect something sub-100k to take the fight to Focus ST and 86.
