Frankfurt 2013: Caddys – oversexed, overpowered & over here!
Elmiraj and CTS prove show-stealers
By Shahzad Sheikh
The Cadillac Elmirage, revealed last month, put in an appearance at Frankfurt, and promptly stole the show for many.
Extraordinarily elegant, extravagantly finished, and stupendously spectacular, despite all of Europe’s best serving up some sensational cars, for many this was the surprise star of the show.
The grand coupe is said to showcase what could be a flagship for the luxury American brand. Let’s hope that means they’re going to make it, or something very like it.
It’s massive – over 5 metres long – but that adds to its immense presence and poise. The Elmiraj ‘is constructed with chassis and structural elements of an ongoing Cadillac vehicle development project slated for future production’!
Power by a 4.5-litre twin-turbo V8 it delivers over 500bhp to the rear wheels.
Just as beautifully finished inside as it’s elegance suggests, this majestic thing was a winner.
Also a potential winner was the equally stylish new CTS.
My first sight of the new car confirms that it’s grown-up and is more a BMW 5-series contender now, but the elegant proportions work perfectly, and there’s a lot more rear space than in the previous car.
