First MME Car Meet a packed-out success!

50 modern, modified and classic cars in the ‘People’s Car Show’
By Shahzad Sheikh

You guys are amazing! We set up our first car meet last weekend and you turned out in big numbers, with some sensational cars. In fact we had over 50 cars of all varieties and around 100 enthusiasts and owners.

We held out first Car Meet at The Pavilion in Downtown Dubai at the foot of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa on Friday from 2pm onwards and it was free to all.

Cars and bikes to see included the brand new Lexus GS getting its first public outing by UAE Lexus dealer, Al Futtaim, fresh from the Dubai International Motor Show; classics like an MG Roadster, a Buick Riviera and a glamorous Ferrari Testarossa; plus a classic Hummer H1 and a six-wheeled Chevrolet Silverado; as well as Mini Coopers and even a three-wheeled performance bike. And as if that wasn’t enough to satiate the desires of car fans there were Fast & Furious style modified cars, a classic El Camino, a VW ‘Herbie’ Beetle and even a 1927 Hot Rod.

Truth be told I reckoned we get a couple of dozen cars for this first meet under the banner of Motoring Middle East. However the appeal of the events is that there is no schedule at all apart from an opportunity for motoring enthusiasts to get together, enjoy checking out each other’s rides, talk cars and bikes and enjoy themselves. It’s also become a great way to socialise and form lasting new friendships.

And we’re not alone in thinking that: “We belong to a couple of car forums like Evolve, UAE Boost and so on. For our first Motoring Middle East meet, this has been so much fun. It’s great to have the opportunity to meet so many friendly faces and like-minded people who like to talk about cars, and don’t think you’re nuts! There’s so much passion on display here,” voiced Osama and Shahin.

Alper from the Jebel Ali Cool Car Klub (JACCK) echoed the sentiments, “This is only my second car meet, but I’ve really enjoyed meeting new people here who experience the same interests. I’m not half the petrolhead some of these people are, but it’s great to have somewhere to network with people and see interesting cars.”

Thanks so much to the great folk at the Pavilion for once again hosting us and showing us their amazing hospitality yesterday at the magnificent Pavilion. The Motoring Middle East first Car Meet, was more successful than we ever imagined! And that’s partly due to the great location and brilliant facilities!
