The new Corvette is one awesome piece of kit with state of the art everything…except for the automatic. What it’s been missing up to this point though, is a state of the art do-it-yourself box and now the 2015 car will have a brand new eight-speed box, derived from the one you’ll see in the upcoming giant-killing Z06.
Dubbed 8L90, GM claims the new box is five-percent more efficient than the outgoing six-speed. Basically, it’s the Z06 box adapted to the lower torque outputs of the 455bhp LT1 engine, with paddles naturally. The boffins at GM also say it’ll shift gears eight-hundreds of a second quicker than the mighty Porsche double-clutch PDK box…
