Dubai Motorshow Debut For New Corolla
Which Corolla will we get, though?
By Imthishan Giado
Like some of you, I’ve been wondering what happened to the new Corolla. It was announced with much fanfare all the way back in June and since then we haven’t heard a peep out of local distributor Al Futtaim Motors on availability. Now, the silence has been broken with the news it’ll appear at the Dubai Motorshow.
Only question is, which Corolla will we get? There are two options on the table – the blade-styled American car which I wrote about before, and quite fancy…
…and then there’s the much more conservatively-styled European Corolla below. Which I really hoping we don’t get, because it looks like a dumpling that’s been sat outside too long.
Engine-wise, the new Corolla is likely to feature either a 1.5-litre or 1.8-litre four cylinder engine mated to a four-speed auto. A CVT version is available in the US – where the new car has been dinged by the press for not being entirely dissimilar to the old one – but there is no indication that we will receive it here.
They look pretty much the same from the A post back. White does not do the car any favours but the US car looks as though it has an undershot jaw. Six and two threes, I would have thought.
Egypt has received the European corolla so if its shipped till there GCC is not far away.
[Imthishan] Sound logic. Also good to know that we have fans monitoring the Egyptian market…
