BMW i8 Concept Spyder

Now with added eDrive for Beijing

By Shahzad Sheikh

The BMW i8 Concept Spyder has turned up at the China Auto show, looking more and more production ready with each appearance.

Actually I’m in two minds about this car, firstly it’s nowhere near as dramatic now as the concept it was based on, the simply stunning and totally futuristic Vision Efficient Dynamics, with its see-through panels and exotic drivetrain from a few years back – the car that was in the Mission Impossible movie.

On the other hand it’s turning out to be quite a compact little thing, and the sweeps and swoops of the styling is still just about as dramatic as anything out there, and surely this is one of the best looking BMWs since the Z8.

The eDrive logo on the back is what will appear on all electric and plug-in hybrids from BMW’s i brand. BMW eDrive comprises the components of the electric drivetrain: the electric motor developed in-house by BMW, the lithium-ion battery, and the intelligent motor management system. You get full torque off the line.

Sweet.
