2015 Porsche Boxster Spyder
Range-topping Boxster, manual roof, manual gearbox, most fun!

Spyder usually means convertible? Right. And the Boxster has always been a convertible? Right. So what’s a Boxster Spyder?
Revealed at the New York Auto Show is the all-new 2015 Porsche Boxster Spyder – and in the previous generation, the ‘Spyder’ tag was used to denote a more hard-core, purer and paired-down sporty version of the perfectly balanced mid-engined baby Porsche.
It’s already one of the best Porsches to drive, the Spyder is even better though, partly because it only comes with a manual transmission! Plus 20mm lower ride height from a sports suspension, uprated brakes (borrowed from the 911), more direct steering and a 375bhp version of the 3.8-litre flat six. This gives it a 0-100kph time of 4.5 seconds whilst being able to reach 290kph.
Inspired as a tribute to the 718 Spyder of the 1960s – an evolution of the 550 Spyder (yes the ‘Little Bastard’ that killed James Dean) – it has two head-restrain bulges on the rear deck. The canvas roof is manually operated. The front and rear styling tweaks are taken from the Cayman GT4.
Inside there are light sports bucket seats, a sports steering wheel and a/c and stereo have been deleted from the standard equipment list (available as cost-free options).
Boxster Spyder goes on sale in July.
