Long-in-the-tooth Navigator gets long-overdue upgrade
By Imthishan Giado
The Jonas brothers. The very first iPhone. I Drink Your Milkshake. All these things date back to 2007 when the current generation of Navigator debuted. As you’d expect, it’s long overdue an update, and after many long years in the wilderness this no-image, high-end luxury SUV is finally getting one.
But, but…don’t expect gigantic change. Underneath the glitzy new front end featuring Lincoln’s “split wing grille” this is still the same truck, albeit one that’s been shot with an LED cannon, then sprayed down with small arms fire from a technology assault rifle. Gone is the old 5.4-litre V8, replaced with the fashionable 3.5-litre Ecoboost twin-turbo V6. Hey, if it’s good enough for the F-150, it’s good enough for this luxobarge.
There’s no mistaking the fact that this truck was designed in the last decade once you step inside, judging by the cliff-face styling of the dash and the somewhat dated twin-binnacle approach. You can expect the usual dose of techno fetishism: a full eight-inch MyLincon Touch With Sync system, while the instrument panel switches to a Fusion-style speedometer-flanked-by-twin-display, providing you with more information than you probably needed to know.
The new – well, sort of – Lincoln Navigator debuts at the Chicago Auto Show in February.
