2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport launched
All-new Discovery Sport replaces the Freelander/LR2; goes on sale early next year, now with 7-seats

The famed British off-road car maker has officially revealed its latest offering, the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport. It will go on sale early next year, and is the replacement for the old Freelander/LR2 range.
It’s a medium-sized SUV, so expect it to be about the size of a BMW X3 and slightly longer than the outgoing LR2. However they’ve managed to squeeze in two extra fold-out seats to make it a seven-seat SUV. An all-new multi-link rear axle enabled them to fit the extra seats in.
The press release says that this is the ‘first member of the new Discovery family’ which suggests that the Discover/LR3 will also get a completely new replacement, probably a much bigger car.
Long-travel suspension and approach, departure and breakover angles of 25, 31 and 21 degrees respectively, along with the Terrain Response system and a 600mm wading depth, means this will remain a capable off-roader and worthy of the legendary green oval badge.
Inside it’s all new with head-up displays, all-new 8-inche infotainment touchscreen with full connectivity including six USB ports as well as four 12v power points.
From launch it will be available with a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol 2.0-litre engine and Europe will get a 2.2-litre turbodiesel. A nine-speed automatic (like the Jeep Cherokee) is being mooted along with a six-speed manual – which we’ll never see in our region.

Be interesting to see how much room there is inside. My guess is that it will a 5+2 seating rather than full 7 seats. My spies tell me the Disco range will mimic the Range Rover in model sizes.so watch this space. Wonder how this announcement will affect the used car values of LR2!!!
