Described as a Baja Bug for the 21st Century, the Dune Concept version of the Beetle looks production ready and debuts at Detroit, but is based on a Beetle R-Line with a 210bhp but only front wheel drive.

It’s longer, wider and taller than the regular car with two inches of additional ground clearance. It’s finished in ‘Arizona’ yellow-orange metallic with two-part wheelarch extensions, along with ‘blades’ that hover above the wheel housings.

The car’s front and rear track have also been widened and it’s shod with 19-inch wheels. There’s a chrome-plated underbody skidplate, and side skirts are supposed be reminiscent of the original Beetle’s running boards.

There’s a larger front air intake and at that back there’s a mounting for skis or sand-surfing boards on the boot lid, with the spoiler actually designed to open and lock them in place.

Looks cool and fun, if they could build it with All-wheel drive at the least then it could sell out here we think.
