The launch of the next Toyota Corolla is just days away and as a teaser, Toyota has begun releasing teaser images of the highly-awaited new car.

We say highly-anticipated but really, ‘long-in-the-tooth’ is perhaps a more apt description. The current E160 generation has been in production since 2006, an eternity in small car development terms. Even when it was released it was no matched for the game-changing 2006 Honda Civic, a car which has already been revised twice  while the Corolla has plodded on unchanged.

As the image shows, the new Corolla will borrow heavily from the Furia Concept Toyota showcased in Detroit earlier this year, with the tail lamps virtually unchanged from that striking vision, if considerably toned down for production. Which means forget LEDs, forget 18 inch wheels, and most certainly forget any idea that this will have anything in the way of a hot engine.

You do however get spidery 17″ alloys. In the history of Corollas, this is most likely the most interesting that a Toyota alloy has looked.

And great news! The Corolla now gets LED headlights. Which or may not make their way over here to the Middle East, but they still look pretty cool.

Cynicism aside, this new Corolla may actually look really good when it’s unveiled on June 6. You hear that, 2013 Honda Civic? You can make a car look good, competent and efficient, all at the same time.
