2014 Chevrolet Trax Headed To Middle East
Baby SUV Trax confirmed for GCC

In a private press briefing, GM Middle East President John Stadwick confirmed that the Trax mini-crossover is coming to the Middle East this year. Built at GM’s plant in South Korea,Trax is based on GM’s Gamma II platform that also underpins the Opel Mokka in Europe, the Buick Encore in the US, and the Chevrolet Sonic subcompact sold here as well – we liked the Sonic quite a bit!
Trax is in the same class as the upcoming Ford EcoSport, SUVs built on compact car platforms to provide better visibility and part time four wheel drive for increased traction.
In other markets the Trax is available as either front or wheel drive with a choice of four cylinders – 140bhp 1.4 turbo, 113bhp 1.6 and a 1.7-litre turbodiesel yoked to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto.
At the moment we have no word on the final spec, but if we had to make an educated guess – expect FWD and AWD cars to debut with the 1.6, to hit a sub-AED100k pricepoint. With 148lb, the 1.4 turbo sounds pretty torquey – let’s hope dealers bring that in as a top spec model.
