2013 Jaguar F-Type Unveiled In Paris

Baby Jag is a super-stunner
By Imthishan Giado

After a steady drip of leaks and rumours, the long-awaited Jaguar sportscar is finally here – the F-Type.

Slotting in beneath the XK grand tourer, this new all-new Jag promises to be a return to form for the Coventry firm, as well as representing an all-new styling direction. The body is constructed from aluminium, with the engine up front and power going to the rear wheels – exactly as it should be. Weight distribution is a perfect 50/50 with a limited slip diff included as standard – mechanical for the V6 cars, and electronic for the V8.

Sorry, did I mention a V8? Considering that it is expected to go up against the SLK, Boxster and Z4, it’ll need some grunt under the hood – and the F-Type will get it, thanks to a heap of new engine options. Base motor is a supercharged V6 good for 336bhp which does the 0-100kph dash in 5.3 seconds. Next up the line is…another supercharged V6, this one sporting 375bhp which cuts the benchmark time down to 4.9 seconds. Expect the hottest upgrade for Jag owners to be flash modules for the engines…

Top of the line is a faintly ridiculous supercharged 5.0-litre V8 which packs nearly 500bhp  and an earth shattering 460lb ft of torque. 0-100kph? Done and dusted in 4.3 seconds. Top speed? A limited 300kph. Madness.

The F-Type should be available next year, with prices approximately starting AED300,000. Next year can’t come fast enough.
