Sadly I’ve had to give the Audi A5 back. It’s been a few days, and sometimes it takes a while to think about what you miss most in a car.
With the Audi its almost its casual class and accessibility, a quality product without pretences, a dependable companion that serves faithfully without demand – and I mean you bare had to fuel it, at least the was I drove it (economy was never higher than 8.5L/100km in my hands).
If you’re after an elegant German coupe, then this is definitely worth putting on the shortlist, and as I’ve said previously, I can’t really justify paying the extra for an S5 version, when this A5, yes even with its 190bhp four-cylinder engine, is so good and perfectly adequate for everyday driving.
Nor in our dry weather do you miss the Quattro all-wheel drive, and the front-wheel drive set-up of this is particularly good.
Of course the RS5 might be a completely different – and a rather enticing I have to say – proposition. Having done the A5 and S5, I can’t wait to give that a go soon!
