Maserati Gran Turismo Sport touches down in UAE
Stronger, Harder, Faster
By Imthishan Giado
If you were on Sheikh Zayed road last night and saw a cool blue glow from the Maserati dealership, relax, it wasn’t aliens. Al Tayer Motors was in fact launching the new Maserati GranTurismo Sport.
For those who are wondering what the difference is: the Sport replaces the outgoing Gran Turismo S and is now the middle car in the range, sitting between the base Gran Turismo and the hardcore MC Stradale.
The 4.7-litre V8 engine now makes 460bhp, up 34bhp from the old S, while torque rises from 361lb ft to 384lb ft. To help you tell the difference, the Gran Turismo has a new smoked headlight design which include LED daytime running lights and can (finally) turn with the steering wheel. You also won’t miss the new front fascia that clearly evokes the pointy nose of the MC Stradale.
Inside, the Sport has an upgraded cabin with a flat bottom steering wheel and thinner front seats which provide 20mm more space for those long suffering rear seat passengers.
Sport prices start from AED 495,000; the car is available with either the automated manual MC Shift box, or the faster and more refined ZF automatic. Both are six speeds and interestingly, the manual is still faster: 4.7 seconds to 100kph, versus 4.8 for the regular automatic.
