2014 Maserati Ghibli Revealed
Maserati to show sub-Quattroporte model at Shanghai Auto Show
By Imthishan Giado
Maserati has revealed the first images of its Ghibli executive saloon ahead of the car’s launch at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 21.
Based on the same platform as the new Quattroporte, the new Ghibli bears many of the same design cues including the prominent trident grille, long hood and short rear deck. Underneath the bonnet, the Ghibli will also feature a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine – including a diesel version, the first in the marque’s long history. The transmission is a new eight speed unit and will send power to either the rear or all four wheels.
This new ‘small’ Maserati is expected to compete in the mass market with the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-Series, and the underlying platform will also see service in the next Gran Turismo – as well as the replacement for the Dodge Challenger, the oft-rumoured Barracuda.
The Ghibli name was last seen on a Maserati in 1997, applied to a two-door coupe that was powered by various version of the firm’s famous Biturbo V6.
Those wheels look stunning.. Good move from Maserati to launch this… If priced right and loaded with all the goodies.. this sure will have the potential E class and the 5 series buyers making a dash to the Maserati Showroom.
