Nissan To Build Juke-Powered 86 Fighter?

Let the Sports Car Wars commence!

Nissan ESSFLOW Concept

Nissan’s last sporty concept was the ESSFLOW, shown at the Geneva Motorshow in 2011.

Good news for all your sports car fans – Nissan is reportedly planning to take on arch-rivals Toyota with an 86 rival set to be shown in concept form at the Tokyo Motor Show in November, according to a UK mag.

Nissan is actually planning a pair of concepts – one of them will be ‘crazy’ according to the What Car? report – but it’s the second that is likely to be closer to a production reality, if global response is enthusiastic enough. Power comes from the readily-tunable Juke 1.6-litre turbo drivetrain, while styling will hark back to Nissans of the past – but not a Z car. Could this be the return of the long-dormant Silvia? I drove S13 and S14 versions in Australia many years ago and they were delightful back-to-basics cars with bulletproof turbo motors and classic RWD handling.

Whatever they are, Toyota’s got some serious competition on the horizon.
