The Real Deal, available at last

Toyota Land Cruiser SWB 70

Looking for the ultimate desert car? Something you can drive straight from the showroom into the sand? You’ll be wanting a Wrangler then. In case you want something Japanese though….well, skip past the FJ, do not collect $200 and go straight to the short-wheelbase Land Cruiser 70.

Toyota Land Cruiser SWB 70

A legend amongst locals here – who refer to it in Arabic as the ‘Capsula’, it’s now available from dealer Al Futtaim Toyota at a price of AED135,000 for a five-speed manual model, with a 4.0-litre V6. Land Cruisers are about toughness and simple body-on-frame mechanicals, not toys. The trim is exceedingly basic – air conditioning, four-speaker stereo with dealer-fitted bluetooth, alloy wheels, fog lamps, fabric seats and a leaf spring suspension. Leaf springs are not what you would call ‘comfortable’, but they’re pretty much unbreakable, as is the rest of the vehicle.

a small correction here, if i may
“cabsula” is the short wheel base of the nissan patrol
this one is called ” bu shanab” to be more specific the pick up version of it

Thanks for the note, though I’ve heard this and other swb 4x4s referred to as ‘capsulas’, as if it were a generic word.

Don’t think we can really call it Bu Shanab anymore though, the front doesn’t look like a mustache much now…

    • KG says:

it’s actually called Rob3 (as in quarter). boushanab is the pick up version

  2. Pistonhead says:

No doubt, a good basic swb truck, but the local dealer should bring down the price by 35k to make it a winner. 😉

  3. Fadl says:

any idea if it comes in auto?

  4. marc says:

if i were a single, this would be my weekend drive for sure..!!

  5. Sam says:

Wissam is also wrong….Rub3 is what is called.

  6. Tom says:

It is called a ‘ruba’, meaning ‘quarter’ in Arabic for a quarter the size of a landcruiser.

Bushanab is the pick up version of this car.

Capsula, is the SWB Nissan Patrol.

  7. Ahahahahah, the “You’ll be wanting a Wrangler then” part is hilarious….
