Heeeerreess Johnny: the Subaru BRZ, revealed

Second half of the Toyobaru twins unmasked
by Imthishan Giado

The GT86’s twin sister finally shows us her goods and as expected, it’s a case of ‘Spot The Difference’. More pic (in the singular) after the jump.

Looks like the floodgates have well and truly opened. The GT86 (or the Artist Formerly Known as the FT86) dropped on Sunday and now its Subaru sister has also been unmasked to the public at large. Unsurprisingly, the car is virtually identical, with the only major differences being a slightly blunter front fascia, different alloy wheels and a tad more power (200bhp, versus 197 on the Toyota car).

At this point, I’m all over looking at this car and just want to get behind the wheel to start driving the tar out of it. The interweb is currently gripped in a convulsive fit over how much the looks differ from the concept car, but to be honest, did anyone really think it would be exactly the same? Besides, there’s been so much engineering thrown at this two over the last few years that frankly if it feels less than utterly brilliant to pilot, like Keira Knightley licking your ears in the corners, I’ll be mightily surprised.

What I am concerned about is the size – as the graphic (based on the concept, but the proportions are almost identical, give or take a few mm) shows, it’s not a big ‘un at all. We like big cars out here, but maybe this is the mouse that roared. Only way to find out.
