Google Street View Bound For Dubai
Google’s Street View cars silently mapping the streets

As proven on many occasions, our readers are the best. And being the best, they immediately spotted this Google Street View car roaming the streets of our fair city Dubai. Although granted, it’s not really trying to hide, is it?
For those wondering what that contraption on the roof is – it’s a 360-degree camera, constantly photographing everything around it and building a 3D world that you can virtually walk through later in Google Maps (try it in places like New York and London, it’s really fun). The interesting question here is that the car is in effect photographing you without your permission – interesting because this is a country with very strict privacy laws and where uploading a video onto YouTube can get you in very hot water indeed. And Street View is renowned for capturing scenes that are bizarre, to say the least.
Update: Google will blur faces and number plates to protect the privacy of motorists and pedestrians.
Thanks Peyman for the tip!
