This is The Most Important Car at the Dubai Motor Show: The 2012 Camry
Big hopes for Toyota’s Famous Big Car
By Imthishan Giado
It’s one car that absolutely everyone in the Middle East will experience at least once in their lives, and you can get a sneak preview at the Dubai Motor Show. But hey, where’s the beige gone?
Gone, that’s what. The new Camry is completely new from stem to stern with brand new sheet metal, which is meant to reflect the car’s new ‘sporty’ character…
OK, don’t laugh back there – when a multi-billion dollar corporation corporation like Toyota decides it wants to make more interesting cars, it will happen. No coincidence that the only two cars on plinths at the Motor Show are this Camry and the new FT86, the new ‘sporty’ cars of the lineup. Toyota swears up and down that this Camry will be more interesting to drive and we’re already hearing reports that the car has better steering feedback and precision.
As an owner of the old V6-powered car, the Australian-made Aurion, I can’t frankly wait because the electric power steering in that car was easily its worst aspect – gloopy, disconnected and lifeless. The new Camry will launch next month and you can be sure we’ll be there to tell you if Toyota manages to pull off a minor miracle.
BONUS PIC – here’s the new Camry, as seen through the cataract-afflicted eyes of your grandparents!
Can’t imagine Grandpa driving a tire-smoking 270+bhp front wheel drive, though…
