First production V12 Zagato

Aston Martin will be debuting the first production V12 Zagato here in the Middle East next month. Amongst a stunning array of sensational classic and vintage cars, the Aston will be the star of the new exotic car line-up at the Kuwait Concours d’Elegance (15-18th February).

Motoring Middle East will be reporting live from the entire concours event. Follow us here on the website and on our Facebook page.

With Kuwait’s Investment Dar owning a share of the British luxury sportscar maker, it’s not altogether a surprise that the production version of the Zagato (previously seen in race car guise – including the car displayed at the Dubai Motor Show last year) get’s it global premiere in Kuwait.

The Kuwait Concours d’Elegance is in its third year and hosts an incredible lineup of valuable cars sourced from over 19 countries, including from around the region. Some of those will of course be Astons including an original DB4GT Zagato – Aston and Zagato have been collaborating for more than 50 years. Of the 19 original DB4GT Zagatos built, all still survive in collections.

Only 150 of the new cars will be built with first deliveries in late 2012 The car will be hand-assembled in Gaydon, England and is obviously based on the brilliant V12 Vantage – its 6.0-litre V12 producing 510bhp and 420lb ft of torque. It’s made of aluminium and carbon-fibre with a bespoke interior.

It was first shown in concept form at another concours event – the Villa D’Este Concours on Lake Como in Italy in May 2011, and a week later raced at the Nurburgring 12 hours.

Dr Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin said “We are excited to show the new V12 Zagato for the first time in production form at the Kuwait Concours d’Elegance. Over 50 years since the introduction of the iconic DB4GT Zagato, Aston Martin and Zagato have collaborated to create this modern interpretation which remains true to the original focus of craftsmanship, performance and exclusivity.”

The new car is being offered for $520,000.

V12 Vantage

Having said all of the above, frankly speaking, I personally think the regular V12 Vantage is a far better looking car and has all the performance you could need in such a compact package. And for under half the price!
