Check out Big Boys Toys in Dubai this weekend
Cars, bikes, cool kit, girls – real and steel…
By Shahzad Sheikh
Big Boys Toys is back, and this time it’s being held at Atlantis the Palm Hotel, Dubai. It opened to the press and VIPs today, but runs over the next two days, and is well worth checking out for guys looking for distractions. And there’s plenty of motorised stuff to justify this preview in MME.
Hulme CanAm Spyder
By far the most exciting car here, one that’s not been seen here before (but which I saw running at Goodwood Festival of Speed last year), is the Hulme CanAm Spyder, named in honour of Denny Hulme, New Zealand’s only Formula One World Champion and double CanAm Champion. It features a supercharged 7.0-litre LS7 ‘Corvette’ V8 engine and in that lightweight body will undoubtedly achieve shattering performance.
It’s sort of a cross between a Caparo T1 and a KTM X-Bow, except that these will be rarer and will cost a million dollars each. That’s when they start making them – this is the only running car you see at the show, and they’re in town looking for a partner up for investing in this extraordinary car.
Marchi Mobile Mobile Home
Multi-million dirham ‘eleMMent’ Palazzo from Marchi Mobile, is a mobile palace for the elite with an expandable pop-up flybridge lounge. It can be outfitted anyway you want, transforms at the touch of button, has the weirdest windscreen and windscreen wipers you’ve ever seen and, unfortunately, is hideously ugly. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, it’s meant to look yacht-like, but it just reminds me of the Elephant Man.

Nissan GT-R VVIP
Oh look, there’s a GT-R here with gold trim, extra padded seats and a ridiculous VVIP badge. Plus even more absurd 24-carat gold-plating. Sure it’s fast, sure it’s grippy, but wouldn’t you rather spend your money on a Porsche?
Dual Tracked Vehicle
These also this weird combination of a segway and… well… a tank. The Dual Tracked Vehicle (DTV) by BPG Werks is claimed to be able to fit in the boot of a car, but can go anywhere thanks to 4-stroke engine.
Bozzies Custom bike design
All the way from The Netherlands, you must go check out these three beautiful bikes. They are like two-wheeled sulpture – the stealthy black version is awesome, there’s a cool Trike and that red one’s like a cat stretching and arching its back!
As the tickets are limited, in order to avoid disappointment, and to avoid the waiting at the venue, general admission tickets for February 10th and 11th can be bought online from Time Out Tickets, Virgin Tickets, BoxOfficeME.com and TicketingCo.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the following outlets: Virgin Megastores, select outlets of Zoom, Choithrams, Hallmark and Spinneys and EPPCO and ENOC petrol stations.
