2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe

We heard rumours, but now it’s official: Cadillac is making a coupe version of its rather good ATS sedan. Same platform, same wheelbase, two fewer doors and sharpened up bodywork to take advantage of that fact.

Caddy is totally following the 3-Series playbook here – launch the bread-and-butter saloon first, then a svelte coupe for the stye conscious. Apart from the lack of doors – and any good shots of the interior – the rest of this handsome coupe is as you’d expect from the ATS, though the roof, doors, rear fenders and trunk lid are exclusive to this vehicle. There’s a 2.0-litre Turbo available (with slightly more torque, 15lb ft compared to the saloon) and the 3.6-litre V6 – both great power providers. Brembo brakes come as standard and all the standard ATS upgrades are available, while transmissions on offer include a six-speed manual (yay!) and a six-speed auto (also good, likely to be the only one offered in the GCC).

New Cadillac Crest

The other big news for this ATS Coupe is that it’s the first production car in the range to sport Cadillac’s new wreath-less crest. The image above explains all the major changes the crest has gone through in the years. I rather liked the wreath, but it’s likely too fussy for today’s cosmopolitan – and remember, younger – Cadillac buyer. Who knows? It may make a comeback in 2030…
